WHAT DOES ONE WRITE FOR THIER 50TH CLASS REUNION?

I guess a lot of thanks to some great teachers, whose greatness increases each year I get older. "They were right!"...as it turns out. Special thanks to Hayes York, Tom Lanks, Pat Carolin and Guillermo Sarmiento. all of whom taught and mentored me through those years. The first three gave me the life tools to succeed in obtaining an engineering degree and MBA at Syracuse University that made for many good years at United Technologies and National Grid on energy related projects around the world.
Now enters, Guillermo Sarmiento, who gave me the basis for dealing with our Latin American neighbors in communicating business and cerveza. In retirement, I worked with our Rotary Club in setting up a program of "English Changes Lives" in Santiago, Chile. Truly, Mr. Sarmiento would roll over, if he ever listened to my Spanish.
Very importantly during these years, Joan and 3 sons have made life very special and a lot of fun with the excitement of 6 Grandchioldren. In retirement we spend summers between Keuka Lake and Syracuse and winter in a small colonial village South of Guadalajara, Mexico to keep up on our Spanish.
Many happy memories and life experiences are shared with Dan Fortmann and his lovely wife Cynthia as we navigate around the world together. Saddened by those who will not be at the reunion (Andy, no excuse), but will be happy to see all.    Al Byrne

A week after graduation, I started working for NY Telephone Company in White Plains. During that time I earned an AA from RCC.  I resigned from NY Tel in 1973 and drove to Captiva Island, Florida.  I worked at a resort and met a slow-moving southern boy, who eventually became my husband.  I married Allen in December 1974. That fall we moved to Gainesville and I enrolled at the University of Florida. Graduated with a BA in Elementary  Education in 1977.  Landed a teaching job with Polk County School Board and had a career of 33 years that included instructional, school support, and administratve positions. I earned a MA in Special Education and certification in Ed Leadership from the University of South Florida. I retired in 2010 and relocated to Ben Wheeler, Texas. We are still residing in Ben Wheeler. In 2013, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments. That year was spent just trying to  stay alive.  Well, here it is 2017 and I am doing well. I  love to be outdoors working in my garden, yard, and pasture. We spend time buying and selling antiques. Sometimes, I just sit on my porch and relax.  I will miss the reunion, but will be there in spirit. Praise goes out to the reunion committee for an awesome agenda.  Hope everyone has good conversations and great fun.  GO PIRATES...                ‚Äč

Semi-Retired Single

Born in Brooklyn, NY, in 1949, my family and I relocated to PR in 1957, when I was in 2nd grade. I attended PR schools until our graduation in 1967. I graduated from Iona College, New Rochelle, NY, in 1971, along with our PRHS classmate, Joseph (Bud) Puglisi, with a Spanish major. I studied on a graduate basis at Iona Grad Faculty and the New School, NY, NY.
I worked at Precise International, Suffern, NY, for twelve years. However, I spent my most important years professionally as a director of development at two Catholic institutions- Queen of Peace HS, North Arlington, NJ, and St. Joseph's Church, Toms River, NJ- for nearly twenty years. Since 2008, I have been semi-retired, working at various part-time jobs, including to this day.
I was the oldest of five children- Henry, Marion, Diane, Richard - followed. My parents, Jo and Rico, now deceased, spent their lives, making a great life for their children. Unfortunately, two of my siblings died young-  my dear brother,Henry, at the age of 30 in 1981, and my dear sister, Marion, at the age of 44 in 1999. My sister, Diane McGee, a semi-retired teacher, lives with her husband, Joe, in Charleston, SC. They have two adult daughters. Richard is a contracts' manager at Gulfstream Airlines, Savannah, GA. He lives in Port Wentworth, GA, with his wife, Ramona, and he has three sons and two grandchildren.I met my significant other, June Spinelli, in 1972, at Precise International. We lived together from 1979 to 2004, nearly 25 years, when my dear life mate died of cancer, while we were living in Toms River, NJ.
I re-located to Rincon, GA, 15 miles north of Savannah, GA, in 2013, due to financial and health concerns. I live in Rincon today.
I look forward greatly to the Class of 1967's 50th Reunion celebration on October 21, 2017!

Retired Married 3

After graduating from PRHS, I went to RCC where I majored in Art; then I spent a little time in Europe and back to NY to attend and graduate from Geneseo.  A “brief” visit to San Francisco turned into a 42-year stay. I lived in SF for 17 years and then bought a house in Oakland where I have lived ever since. During my time in SF, I went to grad school at SF State and got a Master’s degree in Educational Technology.  Good timing, because this was right at the beginning of the Silicon Valley craziness and I started working in my field right away.  Several years in the valley and then I transferred to IBM.  After a few years, IBM had big layoffs and I started teaching in the Community Colleges where I stayed for 25 years. I retired from classroom teaching but I still teach a few classes online.
I have one daughter from my first marriage.  Many years after I got divorced, I happily met my wonderful husband Fred.  Now I have three children; my daughter (33), a stepdaughter (32) and a stepson (31).  We also have the cutest two-year-old twin grandsons! As far as “free time”, I still teach part-time, travel, volunteer, babysit and who knows what else! My husband retired from his medical practice and loves to garden a lot, sings in a chorus and makes great bread.
Don’t think we will be able to make the reunion but I hope you have a wonderful time and I look forward to seeing all the pictures.

ESL instructor Married 4

I've been married to the same wonderful person, my Alan, for 46+ years, having met him in my years at SUNY Albany (I graduated from SUC New Paltz in 1971 because when I switched majors from audiology/speech path to elementary ed and Albany didn't have that as a choice, at that time).  We had 4 children, I subbed and eventually, worked at the IRS as a tax examiner until 1992, when we moved to CT so Alan could work for CIGNA. Here, I was hired as a Correctional officer to teach ESL, and I retired from Hartford Correctional after 20 years, in 2014.  Since then, I've been working part time with private students and for Farmington (CT) Adult Ed.
I have multiple ed degrees, including two in supervision, am part of the CT Writing Project, having been certified from there in 2001; was awarded Teacher of the Year in both 2008 and 2013 in Hartford and nominated for Regional District 1 of CEA teacher of the year in 1995.
